It's Animal Antics Day!

Hi friends and fellow crafters. It's the 1st of the month and that means it's time for another Animal Antics Challenge. We are into the 3rd month of a 1 year challenge. I don't think I have ever used any one cartridge 3 months in a row. Getting to the 1 year mark may prove to make this a true challenge for me. LOL!

Since I am behind... oh... about 18 or 19 years on scrapping Danny's pictures, I have been concentrating on doing layouts. With this challenge, I'll have 5 layouts done for him since the new year. That might be a personal best record for me. Today's layout features Danny at around 26 months. I have always loved these two pictures of him and as I was going through the handbook for Animal Antics, I came across a phrase no 51 year old woman should ever utter. Of course, I chose that phrase and the matching animal to use for the layout. (insert laughter here)

I was looking through a digital version of Northridge Publishing's Create Magazine's new issue  called Embellish and saw a terrific layout on page 59 created by Wendy Sue Anderson where she uses tags as embellishments. I loved how they were all along the top of her page and decided to recreate a similar look on my page. I used a basic tag from Bags, Tags, Boxes and More 2 that I cut at 2.35 x 2.95. I gave me a chance to use some of my button and twine collection.  I cut "Do I heart You?" from Animal Antics using the font with the shift function. I used Bazzill Swiss Dots Cardstock. I didn't use a shadow, so I took a copic marker and ran it along the edge of the letters to add some depth. The heart was cut from Calligraphy. I unlinked the width and height and stretched the height to 1.45 inches, keeping the width at .80 inches of the letters and heart. The border is from another Circle Cartridge, Paper Trimmings. It is 1 x 12 inches. I accented it with red and yellow skittles.

The handbook for Animal Antics shows the Gorilla's fur as black. I didn't like the Gorilla in black, so I chose to use Cricut Candy Shop Cardstock in a blue that matched Danny's Giant's cap. I also didn't like the way his face looked with a black mouth and nose, so I used my copics to easily change that. I cut the face shadow in white and cut off the ears and hat. Then I just colored the areas that would show through the face layer with my color choices for his eyes, nose and mouth. The picture below shows what the cut looked like, and how I trimmed and colored it. I didn't worry about being neat because the edges weren't going to show, the white cardstock is textured and it absorbed a lot of ink. I didn't want to waste my Copic ink.

The picture below shows the bottom layer with the face layer. I also cut that in white and used my copics to color it.

I wanted a red top hat, so I cut the base layer in red and trimmed the face area away, leaving only the hat.

Here is how the Gorilla turned out. He's kind of cute after all.

I used the same Bazzill Swiss Dots Cardstock from my letters for the Animal Antics phrase. I used orange cardstock from Cricut Candy Shop for the shadow. I had some scraps of the DCWV Glitzy Glitter paper on my table, so I used that for the mustache and hat's band. The title is cut at 5.6 x 4.4 inches.

I had some pieces of green chevron on my table so I used them at the bottom of the page. I can't remember where I cut them from.

My camera has been taking the worst pictures. One of these days, I am going to get rid of the point and shoot and get a nice DSLR. Anyway...

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. Don't forget that Saturday is National Scrapbooking Day! I'll have a post with a tutorial here.

Have a great day!

Happy Crafting!

  1. How cool is this!!! Ha! OK, you are a little behind but only by 18 years, and really, in the scope of time, that is just a drop in the bucket, right?

I love your blue gorilla-- yes, perfect match for your son's shirt! Great concept with the tags and clever use of Copics!
